Based in Santa Monica and La Crescenta, California, Sacred Garden Designs, Inc. is a certified Small Business Enterprise (SBE) with a crew of 11 key seasoned industry professionals, providing a broad range of services including design, hardscape installation and maintenance for our residential customers and urban design and planning, community and school garden design, park master planning and streetscape improvements for city and county clients. We are skilled in Project Management; having coordinated small and large projects with various community and government stakeholders throughout the USA, Canada and the Caribbean, where we encourage the design and installation of cost effective and environmentally beneficial sustainable landscapes.
About The Founder
Sacred Garden Designs, Inc. was founded by Denise Buchanan who is a Sustainable Landscape Architectural Design Professional with a Master’s Degree in Landscape Architecture and a Master’s Degree in Spiritual Psychology. Her unique inter-disciplinary approach blends her knowledge of design and human behavior by designing environments which are not only aesthetically pleasing but which are environmentally responsible and healing to the human psyche. For over 25 years, Denise Buchanan has been committed to minimizing the impact of drought, climate change, food insecurity, growing populations and deforestation in urban landscapes while maximizing the creation of more useful and livable urban environments centered around sustainable land management and community economic viability especially in the under-served areas of society.
Denise gained a Ph.D. and lectures at the University of Southern California and she has also been instrumental in providing leadership to community-based organizations, government departments and government stakeholders on various national parks, highway, tourism, urban renewal and master planning projects throughout the United States, Canada and the Caribbean.
Denise’s wide-ranging interests include environmental justice, sustainable management of land and water resources, responsible mining, urban farming, food security, agricultural productivity and sustainability in marginal environments, urban forests for climate modification, desalination of sea water for agricultural crops, urban revitalization, sustainable rural development and cultural and psychological factors that influence human social behavior in public spaces. Her work has been featured on the Etherworks Production “Sold on Green”, HGTV, on national television and in various industry publications.
Denise is an Award Winning International Public Speaker and Author and has been called on to be an inspirational guest speaker at conferences and functions for Wells Fargo Bank and Universal Studios and at events in Warsaw, Poland; Berlin, Germany; Buenos Aires, Argentina; Santiago, Chile; Lima, Peru; Vatican City, Italy and the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland. Denise often blends her love of contemporary, interpretive and African dance into her public speaking engagements.
Denise is a Member of the American Association of Landscape Architects, the American Horticultural Therapy Association and the International Association of Women and she is the only Jamaican Female Licensed Landscape Contractor in California.
