AGRI TOURS JAMAICA
Jamaica is an island nation in the Caribbean Sea, situated southeast of Cuba, with mineral-rich soil and a climate that is ideal for growing a variety of popular fruit, vegetables, herbs, coffee and spices. With so many delicious foods available across the island it is hard to believe that almost half of Jamaica’s food supply is imported. On August 8 2021, the International Trade Administration reported, “The total value of food imports to Jamaica in 2020 was $932.65 million, with approximately 42 percent supplied by the United States. Approximately 60 percent of food imports are destined for the hotel, restaurant, and institutional (HRI) sector, while the remaining imports are channeled to consumers through retail outlets such as supermarkets, convenience stores, and small “mom-and-pop” shops.” Imported products which Jamaica could easily cultivate.
The goal of Agri Tours Jamaica is to expose local and international travelers to the unique experience of exploring in a fun and vibrant way, the source of food products on the island and promote food security and increased local farming entrepreneurship throughout the island of Jamaica. Visitors will get a renewed connection to the earth and opportunities to make a difference in a developing country. For Jamaicans, Food Security would mean having both physical and economic access to sufficient food to cultivate a productive and healthy life as well as the opportunity to develop entrepreneurial ventures to provide economic stability. Given the existing parcels of land in Jamaica under agricultural production, much opportunity exists to cultivate land which is under utilized or not in cultivation. We have also found that the majority of agricultural lands have recreational resources on or near these properties which provides an ideal mix of fun-food-facts and service for visitors on Agri Tours Jamaica.
Agri Tours Jamaica intends to promote food security by combining agriculture and tourism in such a way that a renewed interest and fervor for food production and social entrepreneurship is generated on the island with much benefit to local communities and the expanded export to global partners. EXPORT OF JAMAICAN CROPS
Agri Tours Jamaica is providing a tremendous opportunity to private investors who would like to participate in the huge market in the United States and globally for Jamaican crops. For example: 100,000 pounds of Jamaican mangoes have been sold in the United States since the start of the 2021, with one US importer indicating that 10 times that amount can be sold in that country, not to mention the global market share that is available for these and other crops. An injection of capital into existing and new farms can meet and increase the current demand and propel Jamaica into a leading agricultural global producer.
